Plastic Concerns

We’ve all used plastics in our everyday lives, and most likely still do in one way or another. Plastic is not only convenient and affordable, it has transformed our world since its introduction to society about 100 years ago.

Plastic is a chameleon. It comes in so many shapes and forms, with so many additives (like adipates and phthalates used for softening polyvinyl chloride or PVC), we are sometimes not even aware that we are using it. The problem with this, and the fact that it is so readily available, is that so many of these additives are toxic to the environment as well as to the human body. The leaching of toxins from plastic, discovered by scientists, is known to cause a disturbance in the performance of hormone development, contribute to certain cancers, cause hyperactivity in children, diabetes and other serious problems.

With our increasing awareness and education about our environment, individuals have moved towards a healthier alternative and hence are also becoming proactive in the process.
